Artist's Comments

Here's the (almost) finished piece. Who knows if I add a few touch-ups here or there before class. I used the oil rub technique that I also used for Rodney Dangerfield. Just for clarification: this is one of the first year teachers, John Williams. He works in the 3D sculpture lab and has somewhat of a potty mouth. I was going to actually give him a toilet for a mouth, but nothing was looking right. Critique is welcome. :)

John Williams: +In Color+ by *PreyingDantis is a great charicature. Quite an interesting technique used, that we're not used to seeing here at deviantART. But as it's the case with this, technique isn't everything. Now one has to wonder what his professor thought about it! (Featured by `dinyctis)

WOW. You are a DAMN good artist. HOLY COW. The background is technically....almost impossible-looking. I can't describe this piece well enough, therefore I now shut up.

Huh, for some reason I thought there was going to be more red in the final image. What color did you use as the oil base? Yellow Oxide or something?

Well for some reason the scan didn't pick up on all the color information. There was more red than this, and I did more work to it in class today before handing it in. I also added some reflective light from the torch on the right side of his face which improved it immensely. When I get it back, I'll update the image.

His curses look awesome. :D

LOL!!! LOL!!! OK, I never thought I'd actually find another Ringling person on this site ever!! Let alone someone who would capture the cursing, grumpy visage that is John Williams!!! LOL! I love it!! We definitely need to chat! Check out my gallery. I graduated back in 2001 majoring in illustration and have been working at a Partyware design company since then. OIL RUB ALL THE WAY BABY! Don Brandes is the man!

This is great. You've captured so much personality in this piece and the technical skill put into it amazes me.

He shares the name and the appearance of the musical John Williams, that's snazzy.

Either way, this rocks!
:iconbeatlevette:
Just the fact that it's John Williams makes it awesome! Nice job!
